Is There A Need For “Statue Of Unity”?

(We are not Modi haters or Kejriwal fans. During the voting season, we press the NOTA button, so it’s a humble request to all the viewers not use cuss words in the comment section and please don’t drag us to the court.)

Statue of Unity’s construction started in October 2013, before Modi Ji become Prime Minister of India. Narendra Modi first announced the project to commemorate Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on 7 October 2010 at a press conference to mark the beginning of his 10th year as the Chief Minister of Gujarat. At the time, the project was dubbed, “Gujarat’s tribute to the nation”.

The statue depicts Vallabhbhai Patel, one of the most prominent leaders of the Indian independence movement, the first Deputy Prime Minister of India, and responsible for the unification of hundreds of princely states to form the modern political boundary of India.

Last month this place was inaugurated by our one and only Prime Minister. This place was in the buzz after being declared as the world’s tallest statue. Built at a cost of Rs 2,989 crore, the Statue of Unity project, barring bronze cladding which is a fragment of the mammoth work, has been done indigenously, L&T said. The statue is located approximately 3.5 km downstream from the Sardar Sarovar Dam, on Sadhu Hill on the bed of the Narmada river.

Many social media trolls, memes were made, criticising the cost of it. Now, the main question arises that “Is there a need for Statue of Unity in India ?”

If we look at some underdeveloped parts of our country, the amount which they have spent to construct this Statue is sufficient to develop chawls of Mumbai, some parts of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, U.P and etc. Modi Sarkar is not focusing on their motto i.e. “Achhe Din Aane Wale Hai”

There are many haters and lovers of Modi Sarkar in our country, as there are many past instances like the name of song Mere Achhe Din Kab Aayengay song from Fanney Khan was changed to Mere Achhe DIn Abb Aaye Re and there are many other cases like this. People travelling in metros and trains fights over Modi and Kejriwal Government. Recently, the Government of India seeks Rs. 100 Cr aid to deal with vaccine price hike, but they have money to build a statue which cost them around Rs 2,989 crore.

A photo went viral on the social media platform, comparing the different statues of the different countries. The picture includes that people of India saying that “The USA is best as they have got Statue of Liberty and Statue of Unity is total wastage of Money”.

In some context, it’s true as the Statue of Liberty was built 100 years ago and it was gifted by France to the USA. As we all know the economic condition of both the countries are far better than India, so they can afford (unlike India).

We think that the government is elected by the people because they think these politicians are their representatives and can lead the country to greater heights, and it’s true Modi Government has done some good work which has been appreciated by the public.
